During an extensive refit of the
VLCC tanker Zoras at
Keppel Shipyard in Singapore,
GBLT Shipmanagement Pty, the Singaporean subsidiary of Indonesian shipowner BLT responsible for the refit, tendered the contract for a replacement high-performance fan. The tender specified an inert gas fan with a centrally-hung impeller able to take pressures of 20 kPa designed to fit the footprint of the existing fan, with delivery in three weeks. Centrally hung impellers minimise vibration, increase stability and prolong product life. Flebu was the only manufacturer that could fulfil all criteria. By adapting the inlet and outlet valves of an existing model, the fan was manufactured and delivered within the timeframe. It fitted exactly into the space available.
